ART IN THE BLACK is a portrait project created by photographer Kristin Braun in Hinton, Alberta. The series features artists and creatives photographed against a stark black backdrop, removing distraction and placing full attention on the individual and their work.

Each session attempts to create a high-impact studio portrait for creatives, offering both visibility and context for the people shaping the region’s cultural landscape. What began as a local initiative has grown into a developing visual archive of creative life in and around Hinton and Jasper.
